Shark Swim School

Patty Bedell is the director of SIGS Sharks Swim School. Patty has combined swimming experience of over 25 years, and coaching experience 11 years. She is a former swimmer at Pepperdine University located in Malibu California, and is currently a swim instructor at Riverside Aquatics located right here in New Albany, Indiana. Patty has trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and has also coached swimming camps at the OTC.

SIGS Shark School is designed for a life of safety, fun and fitness. Swimmer will learn proper swimming techniques including body position, breathing, and stroke mechanic to build endurance and stroke efficiency. This will enable our graduates to join a competitive program if they so choose.

Instructors will follow a specific teaching progression to provide consistency throughout the programs. Students at the beginning of each session will build on skills learned during their last session, regardless of which instructor they had.

While recognizing that water safety is the primary reason to learn to swim, the program beginning with teaching basic floats and kicking so swimmers feel comfortable enough to submerge ad float through the water. Each level builds skills and endurance with a specific learning progression that make the learning process easier. Higher levels teach the four competitive strokes, and turns, so that when swimmers pass level 6, they will swim well enough to join any competitive team.
